I don't know. I just remember as a kid that, while I played my beloved yellow version, I always wanted Misty and Brock to follow me around like in the anime. I'm not sure why.

Oh i was thinking the region could sort of look like two cresent moons one inside the other. The outer one is connected to land to the south( it doesn't matter), then a few islands in the area as well.
